The Howrah Police Commissionerate is slated to complete four years of functioning on 1st September, 2015. In the last four years, the Commissionerate has achieved several milestones with regard to delivering a comprehensive road map in all sectors and succeeded in establishing citizen centric policing with augmented manpower to manage law and order, fighting crime and giving seamless connectivity by improving traffic management. Ever since I took charge of this prestigious office on 28th May, 2015 it has been my earnest endeavour to carry forward the legacy of the good work and provide effective governance and improved service delivery to the citizens of Howrah city. I believe good governance is a summation of the concerted efforts on the part of administration along with all the stakeholders who work in tandem to bring about positive and decisive change in society. On my part I will ensure that my team tirelessly strive to keep the city safe from malevolent influences and eradicate harmful elements who pose threat to the growth of this vibrant city which is historically replete with tradition and culture and considered the industrial hub of the state.
With this colossal task in hand I take this opportunity to reach out to all the people of this city through this platform to invite their discreet participation to help us achieve our objective of timely detection and prevention of crime, enforcement of law and order and establishing societal harmony through mutual respect and healthy camaraderie in a congenial milieu. We have come a long way since the Commissionerate was set up but the journey has got tougher and arduous with the soaring expectations of the residents. We are putting in our best attempt to remove impending hindrances and provide hassle free, prompt and sensitive pro-people service. Upgradation and modernization of the traffic management system and channelizing the routes for rapid movement of vehicles to bring it at par with neighbouring Kolkata city is being chalked out. Through continued discussions and interactions we are constantly improvising diverse policies which will help in the holistic improvement of the policing structure of the city.
In this quest, we seek the proactive suggestion, advise and co-operation of our stakeholders to function as our “eyes and ears” to enrich this forum and thereby assist in developing this police-public partnership for the greater benefit of society.
With warm wishes,
Shri Devendra Prakash Singh, IPS
Commissioner of Police
